|D.C. United have announced a premier soccer development program for players ages 5 – 8. United staff are committed to providing players with a unique and authentic experience, all built on a passion for soccer. The program, an in-house league run entirely by D.C. United coaches and staff, will help young players learn to love the game while participating in a fun and engaging environment. Each week, players will focus their efforts on a new principle of play which will aid their overall development and at the culmination of each session, players will participate in non-competitive scrimmages. In addition to training, players will participate in four Saturday matchdays in both the Fall and Spring to experiment with their newly-developed skills.
The implementation of D.C. United’s in-house league is part of a more defined pathway for identification and placement of players in United’s U-9 and U-10 teams as well as the club’s academy teams. “D.C. United Juniors provide young aspiring players with a structured environment to grow their passion for the sport, in addition to a well-rounded soccer education,” Nolan Sheldon, United’s Director of Youth Development, said.
